Our Story
Built on the mat. Built to last.
Iron Lotus opened in 2015 with a single goal: create a martial arts gym that's serious about technique without being unwelcoming to beginners. Seven years later, we're the largest BJJ community in Denver.
Our History
Denver’s jiu-jitsu home since 2015.
Marcus Ferro spent 12 years as a student at gyms that were either too competitive for beginners or too easy for serious practitioners. There was no middle ground. He wanted a gym where a white belt could train next to a competition team member and both could push each other without anyone feeling out of place.
Iron Lotus started with 12 mats on Larimer Street and 8 founding members. Today the gym has 200+ active members, a competition team with national-level placements, a full Muay Thai program under Jana Osei, and a kids program that’s become one of the most popular in Denver.
The philosophy hasn’t changed: technique first, ego last. The mat is the great equalizer. What you do off it is yours — what you do on it is everyone’s business.
Our Values
Technique. Respect. Consistency.
Technique First
Position before submission. Foundation before flash. We build fighters who understand why a technique works, not just what it looks like when executed correctly.
Ego-Free Mat
Rank means nothing in sparring except that higher belts have a responsibility to help lower belts. We don't tolerate bullying, sandbagging, or training to injure.
Consistency Wins
Three months of showing up three times per week beats twelve months of showing up when motivated. We're here to help you build the habit, not just the skill.
Your first class is on us.
No membership required to try. Show up, tell them you’re new, and we’ll take care of the rest. Classes run seven days a week.
